Telecommunication operators in the Luoyang branches, Henan province, announced in August 2020 that they would automatically switch their 5G transmitter stations to sleep mode from 9 p.m. to 9 a.m. because there were few people using them. The same policies have been rolled out in other cities across the country.
However, the 5G rollout is still gathering pace and China will build 600,000 base stations for the 5G telecommunication network in 2021, according to the country's ministry of industry and information technology (MIIT).
